Tote Gote 1960

Kevlar has fun while working
– Using this solid machine to do chores, Kevlar gets the job done. Fun on the side – Kevlar also learns a thing or two about snakes on an adventure.

This bike, if that’s what you can call it, was a work horse. It was fun to ride, with its low gears and a “tackle-any-obstacle-in-its-path” attitude. We used it to gather wood and just in case we needed an extra. But, there were time when it was too hard to resist. It was just generally fun.

The first memory that comes to mind was the time when Larry and I were off on an adventure. He was on the Tote Gote and I was on the yellow 80. We were just putting through the desert and playing follow the leader. He in the lead and I following – no matter how much gravel I ate, I always followed. We came upon a small snake and Larry decided he wanted to take it back to camp with us. My dumb ass just followed along with the plan (much like I do today with Judy’s crazy adventure ideas). There was a small compartment under the seat that seemed perfect for storing the snake. Larry found a stick and was able to get the snake in the cubby. The snake did not like this and kept trying to escape. Now me being the smart one, I just stood by and watched the snake strike Larry. I laughed as the snake slithered away. Larry freaked and made a beeline back to camp in fear that he was poisoned and would die soon. I thought there was no way a snake that small could be poisonous. It turned out that I was right. None-the-less, we had to make a trip to the hospital for evaluation. It was determined the snake was a blow snake and thus harmless. We survived another adventure.
